Anne Meyjes Flanagan
A Former YW Staff Member, Woman of Distinction, Avid YW Supporter & Friend To Many…
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Anne Meyjes Flanagan last week. Anne was a true friend and family member of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk.
From 1990 through 2008, Anne was the Director of Development for the YW and was known for her personal touch when reaching out to the community.
She was an active YW Member and benefactor for decades and in 2011 received the YW Women of Distinction "Distinguished Service Award". When accepting her award, Anne took a moment to share her thoughts which captured the spirit of the YW beautifully:
"All my years of volunteering have been wonderful. At the YW we had a goal and the goal was women helping women with our programs. But on top of that we had fun, we really had fun. And many of us are still together. At a cocktail party, (my husband) Bill said, 'I know the YW does Gourmet, I know they do ballet, but tell them about the programs!’ No matter how old you are you can always find something to do at the YW..."
The YW was fortunate to have known and worked with such a remarkable woman who embodied great enthusiasm and passion in promoting kindness and enhancing the quality of life of all she came in contact with.
The YW Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers and Members, both past and present, extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Meyjes and Flanagan families.
