YWCA Darien/Norwalk Push-n-Pull Parade in its 6th Year |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE YWCA Darien/Norwalk Push-n-Pull Parade in its 6th Year DARIEN, CT – June 17, 2010 – The YWCA Push-n-Pull Parade turns six this year, and will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. sharp. The annual patriotic parade of children riding bikes, scooters, wagons or any non-motorized vehicle will step off from Goodwives Shopping Center, where Mary Ann Hall’s Music for Children will entertain the waiting crowd starting at 10:00 a.m. The parade travels down the Post Road and ends in Tilley Pond Park, where food vendors and live entertainment will be available. Local and state elected officials and an authentic fife & drum corps will lead the parade, which last year drew close to 3,000 local residents. Fire trucks and the Darien Sport Shop’s smart car will take up the rear of the parade. Dogs are welcome, and can find refreshments at watering stations in Tilley Park provided by Pawprint Market. This event is free and open to the public. A suggested donation of $10/family will be accepted at Tilley Park and will directly benefit the community service programs of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk including New Directions, a job career coaching and job skills training program for women who, through separation, divorce, death of a spouse, or other life altering circumstances, need to return to the workforce to achieve financial self-sufficiency. The Darien Sport Shop is the Title Sponsor of the event for the fifth straight year, and we thank our Gold Sponsor Darien Rowayton Bank. Additional sponsors include The Melting Pot Restaurant, Maureen Bloom’s Playdates, the Darien Toy Box, the Darien Youth Commission, The Little Gym, The Healthy Child, The Sitting Service of Connecticut, Whole Foods Market, and the Darien Parks & Recreation Department. Media sponsors include New Canaan Darien Magazine and The Darien News. About the YWCA Darien/Norwalk The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving women the support and tools they need to transform their lives, be confident in their choices and raise healthy families. Our national mission, eliminating racism and empowering women, translates locally into a vision to create opportunities for growth, leadership and empowerment for all women and families.
